Research Abstract

The purpose of this work is to search the solution of noise damping and vibration of flooring from the standpoint of adhesive improvement. The procedure is as follows ; synthesize polymers having damping in a wide range of temperatures or frequencies ; applying them as noise damping and vibration damping adhesives.
In the first year, it was known that synthesis of polymers having relaxation over a wide range of temperatures was possible through power feed, IPN and blending method, which was determined by various characterizations.
In the second year, the above polymers were freely molecular designed to result in IPN,crosslinked polymer, emulsion polymer and solvent-soluble polymer, which have broad transition over a wide temperature range at not only room temperature but also other temperature range. The above synthesized polymer were applied to wood/adhesive/wood composite to evaluate the damping properties, tan delta in this case, by three point bending using modified rheovibron dynamic mechanical analyzer. As an example, in the case of using IPN made from epoxy resin (Epon 871) and acrylate (butyl methacrylate), the composite sandwich system showed a relatively high damping coefficient over 70゚C temperature range maintaining stable bending strength.
The above results indicate that noise and vibration damping of floor can be lowered using high damping polymeric materials.
