| Research Abstract |
The aim of this research is to analyze prosopographical materials of the boyarstvo or the aristocracy of the Muscovite state and to clarify their relation to the tsarist power and the interrelation among aristocratic families and groups.
To sum up each year's results :
In 1994 the researcher set himself a question, whether there existed the social groups in Muscovy which were equivolent to the estates or Stande in European countries. If they did not, it is meaningless to investigate the boyarstvo in relation to the tsarist power. But the researcher came to the affirmative conclusion.
In 1995 the researcher questioned whether the so-called the right of departure of the nobility in generall (ot'ezd) guaranteed them the free departure from their sovereigns, and came to the negative conclusion. He thinks that this "right" was introduced by the tsarist regime in order to secure the influx of the noble service men into Muscovy and not vice versa. He pointed out, actually no Muscovite nobility could not and did not utilize this "right".
In 1996 he paid attention to the so-called "Book of a Thousand" and investigated its relation to the reform policy of Ivan the Terrible. He suggested that this unique historical document provided historians with extremely rich information on the personnel of the Muscovite "dvor" (court) at the early stage of its formation.
On the whole the research showed the important role of the Muscovite aristocracy in the tsarist government. In this sense the project attained its main object.
