Research Abstract |
Titaniums are expected of utilities for biomaterials. Pure titanium transforms easy and that strength is low to use for dental materials. Due to applications of titanium for dental materials, titanium alloys were investigated. The components of investigated titanium alloys were Ti-Zr, Ti-Zr-Nb and Ti-Al-Nb. The highest hardness and strength were obtained at the composition of 50% Ti-50 %Zr (in at%). Additionally, it is confirmed that the Ti-Zr binary alloys showed superior corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Ti-Zr based alloys containing small amounts of Nb were investigated in order to evaluate their possible application as a biomedical material. Nb, having a beta phase stabilizing effect fro titanium and zirconium, was chosen as a ternary element to control microstructure desirably. Ti-Al-Nb alloy was developed with replacement vanadium in Ti-6Al-4V alloy with niobium. The composition of this alloy is Ti-6%Al-7%Nb (in at%) and this alloy showed good mechanical properties and superior corrosion resistance.
