Research Abstract |
Science education which has become more important nowadays, meets with a big difficulty in a non-science oriented university. Many students lack presupposed fundamental comprehension and knowledge about natural science. Because some of them have given up studying natural science long ago and subjects of science which are not importantin the entrance examination have been neglected by most of them. Therefore it is indispensable to give a preliminary lesson to them. Our research aims at the developement of the science education system based on network in order to aid such kind of education. At the first year of the project, we developed the frame-work of the education system on a local network in our university. E-mail and news systems have been involved in our system by the use of UNIX as OS.Although our system are substantially connected with the world outside through internet, specifying of individual students and checking individually their progress are designed. The fruitful results were reported at the anual conference of the society of Japanese Chemical Software held at Rikkyou unversity in 1996, and further it was published as an article in J.Chem.Software. For the last year of the project, we concentrated on the developement of the contents which shoud be loaded in the system. The characteristics of the teaching materials are different each other from field to field. By use of "Java", conversational and dynamic materials such as simulation and three dimensinal animation have been designed particularly for physics and chemistry. Such progress was reported at the anual conference of the above mentioned society in 1997, and will appear as an independent article in J.Chem.Software soon.
