Research Abstract |
I have been working on a pioneer study for three years. In the first year I endeavored to collect books and documents. I've got good results from seeing Professor Yoshiki Morimoto of the Faculty of Economics, University of Kyushu. He kindly advised me on many problems in making the research. In the second year, 1997, by my earnest efforts I could publish a Japanese translation from English text, written by Galbert of Bruges, only one diary we can use in the High Middle Ages of the Occidental history. In the final year that extends from 1998 to 1999, I have been making considerable efforts in writing my report of research results, though I could not use one or two important texts. Consequently I came to a conclusion that counts of Flanders had very strong initiative in forming territorial county of Flanders, especially in the eleventh century and the twelfth century. On the other hand, in these matters we should not overlook great efforts of the bourgeois for a considerably long time, especially from 1127 to 1128, and the period under the direction of two counts of the Alsatian family. Now I would like to write about my future research theme and its development. I intend to continue this research further. I'd like to study some points that have emerged while I did my research for these three years and explicate structurally this big theme, plainly and persuasively. I expect, after several years, to publish a book of my own under the same title of this project : Formation of Principality by Counts of Flanders.
