Research Abstract |
The use of a heat exchanger for obtaining heat capacity ratios was first proposed by Burnett(1905). In 1930 Workman reported the heat capacity of gases by this method. We have developed newly designed apparatus based on the heat exchanger method for the measurement of heat capacities of refrigerant mixtures under high pressure. In order to confirm the reliability of our apparatus, the specific heat capacities of carbon dioxide were measured in the temperature range of 298 to 343 K at pressures up to 1.6 MPa. The heat capacity ratios of carbon dioxide obtained in this work were compared with the literature values. The data obtained agreed with the literature values in the estimated uncertainties of this measurements. Unfortunately, some problems occurred with the measurement at higher pressures. One problem is the pressure leak at the heat exchanger which is the most important part in this apparatus. Therefore, no results for the mixture of Hydrofluoro carbons can be reported here. These problems were already solved. The missing data for the mixtures of Hydrofluoro carbons will be measured as soon as possible.
