Research Abstract |
One of the issues on genetically modified foods is that unexpected or unintended proteins or metabolites will occur as a result of the genetic modification of crops. Here we have prepared transgenic tobacco and apple shoots as model plants and analyze the proteins and phenolics to give a fundamental knowledge on the safety of the genetically modified foods An antibiotic-resistant gene was used as a maker for the selection of transgenic plants. Beta-glucuronidase gene was used to colorimetrically examine the expression of inserted gene. Proteins and phenolics of transgenic shoots were compared with those of non-transgenic shoots. Proteins and phenolics were analyzed by SDS-PAGE and HPLC, respectively. Consequently, there were no significant differences between them.
