Research Abstract |
THE GOAL OF THE PRESENT STUDY WAS TO DEVELOPE A NOVEL DEVICE OF NITRIC OXIDE PRODUCTION USING PULSED DISCHARGES FOR INHALED NITRIC OXIDE THERAPY. A BRASS ELECTRODE WAS USED FOR DISCHARGE. ABOUT 400-500 PPM OF NITRIC OXIDE WAS PRODUCED. THE CONCENTRATION OF NITROGEN DIOXIDE WAS REDUCED USING MOLYBDENUM. BY USING CHARCOAL, THE CONCENTRATION OF NITROGEN DIOXIDE WAS MAINTAINED AT 0 PPM. SMALL AMOUNT OF NITROUS OXIDE WAS ALSO DETECTED. THE DEVICE LASTED 3 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE ALTHOUGH THE ABRASION OF THE ELECTRODE ffAS DETECTED. AN ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE AND NOISE WERE WITHIN A PERMISSIBLE RANGE. FOR CLINICAL USE, WE HAVE TO CHECK MOREOVER IN DETAIL WHETHER ANYOTHER ABNORMAL GASES ARE NOT PRODUCED BY THE ELECTRICAL DISCHRGES. THE DEVICE CAN BE MINIATURIZED TO LOAD ON A VENTILATOR. INHALED NITRIC OXIDE THERAPY IS OFTEN USED FOR A NEONATE WITH HYPOXEMIC RESPIRATORY FAILURE. THE ANIMAL EXPERIMENT IS REQUIRED TO DETERMINE WHETHER INHALED NITRIC OXIDE THERAPY BY THE DEVICE DO NOT PRODUCE THE PATHOL OGICAL CHANGES OF THE LUNGS IN NEONATE ANIMALS.
