Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose was to examine the influence of "genu recurvatum", which knee joints extend to more of the normal extension angle, on the kick and the swimming ability in front crawl swimming. The subjects were twelve well-trained male swimmeres. It was investigated that the relationship between knee joint hyperextension angle and kicking and swimming performance in front crawl swimming. It was not significant correlation between the maximum hyperextension angle of knee and swimming speed in crawl swimming with maximum effort. In addition, no significant correlation was observed between the knee hyperextension angle and the kick swimming speed during the kick swimming, and also between the hyperextension angle and the propulsive force of kicking. It was suggested that hyperextension of the knee joint of the swimmer had no direct effect on the performance of front crawl swimming and kicking.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
