Outline of Final Research Achievements

Irvin Cooper developed the Cambiata Concept as a method for teaching boys to sing throughout the voice change. While working as the Music Supervisor for the Montreal Protestant School System, Cooper developed his method of having boys sing during the voice change. I use his method to guide Japanese boys throughout the voice change. We arrange the “My Old Country Home（Furusato）” for boys with changing voices.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

変声期男子をどのように指導するか、という問題は大きく二分される。まず、「歌わせないで他の活動に振り替える」という方法、次に「歌える声域を歌わせる」という方法である。教会や学校によって伝統的にどちらかを選択しているが、アメリカにおいては後者が主流となっている。カンビアータ・コンセプトは、多人数の変声期男子の実証データをもとに成立したコンセプトであり、我が国の変声期指導の大きな示唆を与えてくれる。このコンセプトの内容を翻訳し、理論的に分かりやすくまとめて研究論文や学会で紹介した。また、我が国の児童・生徒に適用できることを検証することによって、その方法論の有効性を明らかにした。
