Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this work, the up-conversion materials; ZnO:TiO2 = 1:1 (in mol) containing (3 mol% Er,9 mol% Yb), (0.05 mol% Ho,9 mol% Yb), or (0.125 mol% Tm,15 mol% Yb), showed red, green or near-infrared light were observed by irradiating 980nm laser light. The increase in the light strength must be due to increase in RE occupation in Zn site.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究成果は、光エネルギーを増幅するアップコンバージョン材料に安価な酸化亜鉛および酸化チタンを用い、目視できる程の明るさを有する発光体の合成法を確立したことにある。現在はレーザー光を光源としているため利用範囲は狭いが、通常の赤外線が利用できるといろいろな発光板などに用いられ、利用は大幅に拡大すると期待される。学術的には、強い発光強を度結晶の欠陥により説明できた点である。
