Outline of Final Research Achievements

Intracellular Ca2+ increases induced by shock wave irradiation involve PLC/IP3 cascades and actin cytoskeleton, but do not involve microtubule. Also, they do not involve damage of cellular membrane, which transmit Calcein and PI. Intracellular Ca2+ increases do not depend on peak pressure of shock wave. Rather, they depend on integral values such as energy flux.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

衝撃波による血管新生はすでに臨床応用されていますが,このメカニズムがわかると,別の疾患を非侵襲に治療できる可能性がでてきます.そのなかで,本研究は,細胞のなかに存在する骨組みであるアクチン細胞骨格が衝撃波によって物理的に変化する可能性を示唆しました.今後,アクチン細胞骨格が衝撃波によってどのように物理的に変化するか明らかにすることで,具体的にどのような疾患を治療できる可能性があるのか,具体的に議論できるようになると期待されます.
