Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We examined the relationship between a transcription factor THRSP and genes related to carbohydrate digestion/absorption in the small intestine and to fatty acid synthesis in the liver. Small intestinal expression of GLUT5 gene, not THRSP gene is significantly higher in rats fed a high-fructose diet than those fed a high-glucose diet. Hepatic expression of THRSP gene as well as fatty acid synthesis genes (ACACA, FASN, SCD1) is significantly higher in rats fed a high-fructose diet than those fed a high-glucose diet.
