Outline of Final Research Achievements

In serum, apelin level were lower in periodontitis group and obesity/periodontitis group than in non-periodontitis group. In gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), apelin level were lower in obesity group and obesity/periodontitis group than non-periodontitis group. Furthermore, pretreatment with apelin decreased Porphyromonas gingivalis LPS-induced expression of inflammatory cytokines in J774.1 cells.
These observations suggest that reduction of apelin level of GCF in obesity patients aggravates periodontitis.
