Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have done fundamental studies on the development of new inorganic materials, members, and repairing and strengthening techniques for sustainable and resilient concrete structures. (1) We have developed a new technique for mass production of single crystal shape memory alloys. (2) We have found an efficient placement of shape memory alloys in concrete members. (3) We have examined the relationship between the mechanical properties and microstructure of alkali-activated materials. (4) We have confirmed excellent bond strength between alkali-activated materials and reinforced concrete. (5) We have examined the performance of concrete structures reinforced with basalt fibers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

学術面:本研究で扱う構造部材や補修補強法の実験データは皆無に近く,特性にも未知の点が多い。特に構造部材の開発は国際的に見ても極めて挑戦的な課題であり,開発に成功すれば建築構造・材料とその周辺分野における大きなブレークスルーとなる可能性を秘めている。
実用面:地球温暖化の深刻化,地震活動の活発化,長引く経済の停滞などの背景の下,コンクリート系構造の低炭素化と災害時機能維持を実現するための高性能で低廉な新しい材料や技術の開発が喫緊の社会的要請となっている。本研究はこの要請に直接応えるものである。
