Outline of Final Research Achievements

In order to carry out in-situ visualization on vector parallel computers, such as Earth Simulator, we modified programs of basic visualization methods for scalar computers to achieve higher vectorization rates and a longer vector lengths. As a result, we succeeded in running them much faster on the vector computer, Earth Simulator, compared to the unmodified programs. Based on this result, we developed in-situ visualization libraries for Yin-Yang gird used actively in geophysical simulations, Cartesian coordinates, and unstructured grid (tetrahedral mesh).
This development enables in-situ visualization of computer simulations using Yin-Yang grid, Cartesian coordinates, and tetrahedral mesh.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究でスカラ計算機用およびベクトル計算機用Yin-Yang格子版,四面体格子版の「その場」可視化ライブラリを開発した。また,カーテシアン座標版VISMOのベクトル計算機向け版を開発した。四面体格子や地球科学でよく使用されているYin-Yang格子版のライブラリは,スカラ計算機用も有用であると考えられる。さらに,これらのベクトル計算機向けのバージョンは,NEC SX-ACE(地球シミュレータ)で開発を行なったが,現在はその後継機(SX-AURORA TSUBASA)が存在しており,また一般のCPUでもベクトル化機能を備えているものもあるので,今後も本研究で開発した技術は,重要である考えられる。
