Outline of Final Research Achievements

The adsorption of amphiphiles at solid/non-aqueous solution interfaces was characterized.
(1) Oleic acid-based gemini amphiphiles spontaneously form a rigid adsorption film at a silica/ester-oil interface. This adsorption film modifies friction property effectively.
(2) Polyoxyethylene-type nonionic amphiphiles can adsorb at a silica/aprotic ionic liquid interface even in the presence of water. In particular, solvophobic amphiphiles yield a repeated structure of micellar aggregates or adsorption layers formed between the silica surface and a cantilever.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

エステル油中におけるオレイン酸系ジェミニ型両親媒性物質の吸着挙動と摩擦挙動を明らかとし,それらの関連性について考察した。低環境負荷な機能性物質とされるジェミニ型両親媒性物質は,摩擦調整剤としての潜在性も有していることが示唆された。
また,イオン液体は有機合成反応における低環境負荷な溶媒として注目されているほか,電気化学デバイスや潤滑油としての活用など,応用分野が拡大されている。本研究成果は,非水媒体中における両親媒性物質の吸着挙動を明らかとし,かつ,こうした産業分野の発展に資していると考えられる。
