Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to meet medical needs, it is required to develop new safe and highly effective disinfectants. It has been reported that high-purity performic acid prepared by discharge plasma (WS-DBD method) has a neutral pH and can be stored more stably than chemically synthesized performic acid. We first demonstrated that chemically synthesized formic acid has a very high bactericidal effect against salivary bacteria compared with existing disinfectants. Moreover, it was shown that high-purity performic acid has a high bactericidal effect on Streptococcus mutans.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究課題の遂行により,化学合成過ギ酸の唾液細菌に対する殺菌効果が明らかとなった.また,新規生成が可能となった高純度過ギ酸について,初めて細菌に対する殺滅効果を検証した.一方,薬剤の安定性や細菌毎にその効果が異なるなど問題点もあぶり出すことができた.今後の継続的な研究により,内視鏡や印象材の消毒(化学滅菌),一般消毒薬,洗口剤などの研究開発シーズとなることが期待される.
