Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this research, we demonstrated few-cycle millijoule-class THz light sources (50 - 15 THz) with the aim of generating coherent keV soft x-ray pulses via high-order harmonic generation. For a pump pulse to a difference frequency generation of THz pulses, we developed a 100-mJ class near-infrared pulse (1 - 2 um) using DC-OPA (dual-chirped optical parametric amplification) method.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

光源開発から得られた成果より,これまで1 keV 程度であった高次高調波の光子エネルギーをさらに高光子エネルギー化できる目処がたった.将来的に本レーザー光源により数 keV の光子エネルギーを持つコヒーレント光発生が可能になれば,物性特性を測定する為の軟 X 線分光計測等に高い時間分解能を付加することができ,フェムト秒からアト秒にわたる超高速軟X線分光学という新しい研究分野が開拓されると期待できる.
