Outline of Final Research Achievements

that excessive prenatal stress induced long-term emotional abnormalities associated with disruption of epigenetic regulation.
In addition, chronic treatment with Yokukansan (YKS), the traditional Japanese medicine, at early life could partially recover the emotional disruption by exposure to excessive prenatal stress. Interestingly, we found that at least in part of the mechanism could be histone modification.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で得られた知見は、妊娠期における強度なストレス曝露の危険性について警鐘を鳴らすものであり、妊婦のメンタルヘルスに対する意識向上につながると考える。また、その分子基盤にエピジェネティクス制御機構が関与することを見出したことから、新規治療戦略構築の一翼を担う。さらに、小児に対して使用実績のある抑肝散の幼少期投与の治療効果を実証したことから、小児に対する安全性の高い薬物治療の提案につながり、極めて意義深い研究成果であると考える。
