Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Chemotherapy agents such as platinum and taxane frequently cause severe peripheral neuropathy and there is currently no effective strategy to prevent this. In this study, we found a new drug for prevention of the chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, using screening system targeting nerve fiber degenerations. Dimethyl fumarate attenuates oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy without affecting both the anti-tumor activity and the other toxicities of oxaliplatin, in culture cells and rodents.
