Research Abstract |
Coronary CT-angiography (CTA) has become able to evaluate coronary artery stenosis. Using the same raw data for coronary CTA, cardiac function such as wall motion and systolic wall thickening can be evaluated, when retrospective ECG-gating acquisition was applied and multiple cardiac phases were reconstructed. Trials of image fusion between different modalities such as conventional coronary angiography (CAG) and myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) have demonstrated potential usefulness to clarify relationship between regional myocardial perfusion abnormality and the responsible coronary artery. But image fusion of coronary artery and functional map by multi-slice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) alone has not been elucidated yet. Because the organization of a series of clinical information from cardiac imaging modalities is necessary for intelligible expression in the clinical setting, we thought 3D cardiac fusion imaging process has a possibility to share anatomical and functional information. In order to generate fusion image of coronary tree and cardiac functional map as easily as possible, we tried to develop semi-automated software for image fusion of coronary tree and regional cardiac functional image using MSCT, which needed complicated manual handling using three different workstations. We collaborated with AZE co. ltd (a soft ware developer, Tokyo), these process have been able to handle with one workstation "Virtual Place" of AZE, minimizing manual handling. Although, the software needs some manual handling, this has been a great step for a full automated one. We actually generated fusion images of coronary tree and functional map (left ventricular wall motion, systolic thickening, and myocardial perfusion), which provided better orientation between regional functional abnormality and the culprit coronary artery The idea of image fusion of coronary tree and left ventricular function will be of clinical importance in the near future.
