| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A favorable school climate has been reported to decrease students’ problematic behavior and improve academic achievement. Various approaches that focus on improving school climate exist in Western countries; however, the construct of “school climate” is not yet established in Japan. Additionally, no other existing measures available in Japan have been tested for the psychometric property of the scale. In this study, we developed a Japan Ijime Scale (JaIS) that measure bullying related behavior (victimization, witnessing, and perpetration) in elementary and junior high school students, and confirmed the reliability and validity. We also developed a Japan School Climate Inventory (JaSC) consisting of 32 items and a shortened version to measure students’ perception of school climate. In addition, we selected five important items that can measure students' perception of school climate with a certain level of measurement precision.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
我が国におけるいじめ認知件数に関する調査は、あくまでも教員が認知する件数であり、社会情勢によって件数が大きく変化することが課題であった。信頼性と妥当性が確認されたいじめ尺度を用いることで、いじめの実態を明らかにし、経年変化を追跡することが可能になると考えられる。また学校風土の測定についても、児童生徒個人レベル、または学校レベルで経年変化を調査するだけでなく、児童生徒の性別、小中学校の校種、地域によらず、その得点を比較することが可能になると考えられる。すべての児童生徒に対して良い学校風土を提供する取り組みによって、いじめや不登校といった問題に予防的に働きかけることが可能になると期待される。
