I have studied open algebraic surfaces, normal projective surfaces and kernels of derivations on polynomial rings. I classified the open algebraic surfaces of logarithmic Kodiara dimension zero with defect ≦ 1. And, I classified the affine plane curves whose complements have logarithmic Kodaira dimension ≦ 0 in any characteristic and proved that every normal del Pezzo surfaces of rank one with only rational log canonical singularities can have at most one non Kawamata log terminal singular points. I classified cuspidal rational curves on Q-homology projective planes whose complements have logarithmic Kodaira dimension -∞ and determined the structure of log del Pezzo surfaces of rank one containing the affine plane. Moreover, I determined the kernels of monomial derivations on the polynomial ring in two variables over a UFD of characteristic zero.
