Outline of Final Research Achievements

To identify tissue stem cells in the kidney, we analyzed Bmi1-positive cells reported as tissue stem cells in various organs. In experiments using lineage tracing study and immunohistochemistry, Bmi1-positive cells proliferated and differentiated in the kidney. Furthermore, Bmi1-positive cells rapidly supplied cells in the kidney during renal damage caused by anticancer drugs. Therefore, Bmi1-positive cells were considered to be involved in tissue stem cells in the kidney.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
