Outline of Final Research Achievements

It is estimated that if we can detect mild cognitive impairment at the pre-dementia stage and delay the onset of dementia for 5 years, we can reduce dementia by half. However, for various reasons, it is difficult to find mild cognitive impairment.
In this research, first, we made a non-contact type simple eye-tracking system. Next, we confirmed the measurement reliability for young people. Finally, we confirmed that the movement speed of eye gaze was reduced due to the decrease in cognitive function and that specific eye movements appeared.
It is considered that this proposed method, which is a passive measurement, can be used in combination with the conventional, conventional screening test method, such as MMSE, which is an active measurement, so that gaze measurement and analysis can be performed in a short time.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

視線計測により認知症、ならびに軽度認知障害を発見するシステムに関して、特許が公開されておらず、関連研究も非常に少ない。本研究は、臨床の医師を含む医工連携チームを形成して取り組んでおり、先行研究と臨床の意見に基づく研究計画を立てて遂行している。従来のスクリーニング検査法との併用なども可能であるため、新しくより具体的な知見が期待できる。
また、試作に用いたハードウェアは視線計測の分野では非常に安価な民生品を利用しているため、本研究を継続して提案システムの有効性を確認できればインパクトや波及効果は高いと考える。
