Outline of Final Research Achievements

Since the DNA of human papillomavirus (HPV) can be confirmed in more than 90% of cervical cancers, it can be said that HPV infection is the greatest risk of developing cervical cancer.
HPV DNA has a gene expression control region called LCR (Long Control Region). Therefore, we tried to develop a new treatment method using the LCR region.
First, a plasmid expressing the target gene in an LCR region-dependent manner was prepared.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

我が国において、子宮頸がん発症の予防に繋がるHPVワクチンの接種は現在中止されている。本研究は子宮頸がん発症の予防のみならず、ワクチンでは対処できない子宮頸がんの治療の一助になることを主眼に置いている。
本研究は、正常な細胞に影響を与えずにHPVに感染した細胞を選択的に除去することで子宮頸がん発症を抑制すること、HPV由来の子宮頸がん細胞を除去することを目的としている。
