Research Abstract

貝殻は炭酸カルシウムを主成分とする鉱物であるが、炭酸カルシウムの単純結晶である方解石やあられ石とはことなり、5%程度の有機物を含んでいる.貝殻形成の分子機構については長く不明のままであったが、本研究においては、申請者はマガキを用いて、貝殻中に新たに申請者らによって見出されたクモ糸様タンパク質の貝殻形成における機能ならびにこのタンパク質の産業応用について研究を行い、ナノテクノロジーや水質浄化剤への貝殻の応用の可能性を提示した.
