Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In emerging countries, the lack of management skills of local firms prevents them from adding high value to their products and may lead them to fall into the middle-income trap. On the other hand, recent research found that management knowledge used in developed countries can be transferred through training. In this study, we conducted a field experiment to provide training of kaizen, a Japan-pioneered method of production management, to local firms in Vietnam, one of the emerging economies in Southeast Asia. Statistical analysis of primary data collected before and after the training revealed that the training had a significant impact on firm management, survival, and business performance, and that the effects persisted for several years.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
