Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は植物や自然の形態にみられる「空間周期性」について、その構造安定論的解釈から、社会および構造システム設計において発想転換をもたらす知見を獲得することを目的としたものである。最終年度は主に直立植物に対する構造安定論的学理を開拓し、以下の知見を獲得した。
・自重座屈の観点から樹木の最大高さ式を理論的に導出するとともに、初期曲がりや支える地盤のゆるさといった要因が樹木高さにどのような影響を与えるかについて、理論式から導出することに成功した。
・草本植物の体勢支持機構を、膨圧により生じる張力として理論式に取り込み、これにより、力学的な観点から木と草を分ける新しい考え方を提示した。
・タワーが直立する際の、テーパー形状と中空構造について、最大高さの観点から両者の優位性の比較を行った。
これら一連の成果は、複数の海外学術雑誌に投稿、掲載に至っている。また、植物形態を構造力学的視点から紐解いた本研究の集大成として、これらの知見をまとめ、2023年7月に岩波書店より岩波科学ライブラリー「竹取工学物語　土木工学者、植物にものづくりを学ぶ」を発刊した。今後これらの成果は植物の炭素貯蔵量の正確な推定や、プラントミメティクス的な観点から新しいものづくりに活きる知見として更なる展開が可能であると考えている。
