Outline of Final Research Achievements

Although early embryos are very sensitive to irradiation, it is not known how different the response are. I found the cellular response differ in short time during early development. Irradiation at very early embryos caused the apoptosis more than 10 hours after irradiation. I hypothesized this is because DNA damage left "scar" on genomid DNA. I examined the status of epigenetic modification and found the changes after artifitially damage DNA (and presumably DNA repaired).

発生のごく初期における放射線影響がどのようなものかは非常に重要な問題である。哺乳類ではある時期までは、産まれないか産まれれば正常であるとされてきた。ごく初期の胚でどのようなことが起こっているかあまりよくわかっていなかったため、ゼブラフィッシュ を用いて調べ、成体とは異なる反応をすることがわかった。さらに、放射線照射を受けると、その”記憶”のようなものがDNA 上に残る可能性について現在も検討中である。
