Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, by incorporating photomelting azobenzene monomers with fast solid-liquid transition into the polymer networks, a new photoresponsive polymer material has been developed which exhibits a reversible glass transition temperature change at room temperature and rapid photomechanical actuation under light irradiation. It is possible to trigger fast photomechanical actuation in films using light-induced changes in the glass transition temperature of polymers.

光エネルギーを効率よく力学的エネルギーに変換できる機能高分子材料は、次世代機能性材料として大きく注目されている。本研究では、光溶融性モノマーの設計と、高速光応答性ポリマー材料の開発における一般的な基盤的知見を提供することに加え、光エネルギー変換装置、光駆動人工筋肉およびソフトロボットのような分野における様々な用途における波及効果が期待される。
