Outline of Final Research Achievements

Microbes produce various small molecules by secondary metabolism. In this research, we tested the method to study secondary metabolite genes identified from plant pathogenic fungus. Also, genomic information for some plant pathogenic fungus was obtained. We designed new inoculation method to observe symptoms on host plants effectively. We selected appropriate plant varieties for the research. Taken together, we obtained basic knowledge for studying secondary metabolism of plant pathogenic fungus.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近年のゲノム科学技術の発展から、様々な微生物のゲノム配列情報が入手できるようになった。ゲノム配列からは大量の遺伝子の情報がもたらされるが、個々の遺伝子がどのような現象に関与するか、明らかになっていない場合がある。植物病原菌は、様々な病原性因子を利用して宿主への感染を確立すると考えられている。本研究成果は、植物病原菌における機能未知遺伝子の解析を進める上で、1つの有効な手段となり得る。
