Outline of Final Research Achievements

The interaction between Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Ca.L. asiaticus), which causes citrus greening disease, and the plant immune response mechanism suggests that C. L. asiaticus uses abscisic acid to alter the plant hormone balance, enabling its infection in the host.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

植物では、環境ストレスに応答するアブシジン酸(ABA)と病原体への防御応答に関わるサリチル酸(SA)との間で拮抗的なクロストークが知られているものの、宿主植物に侵入したCa. L. asiaticusは、植物が合成するABAを増殖誘導因子として利用し、植物ホルモンバランスを変化させることで感染を成立させることが明らかになった。さらに、病原細菌におけるABAを介した増殖制御機構の一端を解明したことで、細菌では未だ明らかになっていないABA応答機構を介した特異的なシグナル伝達経路の解明に向けた研究基盤を構築できた。
