| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We analyzed the role of confidence in risk assessment in the formation of consumer anxiety. As a result, we found that even consumers who estimate risk as small become more anxious, while consumers who estimate risk as large become more anxious when they are more confident in their assessment. This result indicates that in risk communication, an approach to risk assessment and an approach to confidence in that assessment is necessary.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
消費者は、しばしば食品添加物や農薬、食品照射など食の安全性リスクを実際よりも過大に認知し、いわゆる風評被害を引き起こしている。一方で、ソラニンなどの自然毒やサプリメントの過剰摂取、肥満などに対するリスクを過小に評価し、健康被害の原因となっている。このようにリスク認知にバイアスがあると、消費者はリスクに対して最適な行動をとれず、市場の失敗が起こる。したがってリスクコミュニケーションなど追加的な情報の付与により、消費者のリスク認知のバイアス緩和が求められている。本研究課題の成果は、心理的・認知的要因が消費者の認知形成に与える影響を明らかにし、リスクコミュニケーションの効率化に寄与すると考えられる。
