Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study found that muscle contraction induced by high-frequency electrical stimulation, which mimics high-intensity resistance exercise, changed the expression of factors involved in neuromuscular junction (NMJ) formation. However, muscle contraction induced by low-frequency electrical stimulation, which mimics low-intensity resistance exercise, did not change the expression of factors involved in NMJ formation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまで、高負荷強度および低負荷強度、どちらの強度のレジスタンストレーニングも同様に筋サイズを増加させること、しかしながら、筋力に対する効果は高負荷強度レジスタンストレーニングの方が高いことが示唆されていた。本研究の成果から、この事象には神経筋接合部の適応の違いが関与している可能性が示された。
