Research Abstract |
Seeking to make clear concretely what Lenormant de Tournehem, Directeur des batiments du roi, had realized during his directorate and the social and artistic conditions which had obliged him to reform the Royal Academy of Paintings and Sculptures, we searched written documents as well as images produced in the time. We came to grasp the importance of public exhibitions called Salon, especially that of 1746 which could have influence Tournehem's principles. We examined in detail the text of La Font de Saint-Yenne, known as the first review of art exhibitions, and made the catalogue of works appeared in that occasion. We are translating La Font's book in Japanese with copious notes in order to publish it.
