Research Abstract |
We have demonstrated that CD98 surface antigen, syncytin, an envelope gene of HERV-W (human endogenous retrovirus-W), and its receptor type D mammalian retrovirus receptor (ASCT2) are involved in the process of cell fusion necessary for syncytiotrophoblast formation using a cell model of syncytialisation (the cytotrophoblast cell line BeWo following increased intracellular cAMP by forskolin treatment).
