Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、サーモトロピック液晶系とリオトロピック液晶系が融合した新規液晶高分子光配向材料を創出し、光配向技術を駆使した高性能デバイス材料プラットフォームを構築することを目的とする。液晶光配向性とプロトン伝導性または光分解・架橋特性を持つ液晶高分子材料を創出し、サブ10 nmの誘導自己集合リソグラフィー材料やプロトン伝導性の光スイッチング材料の実現を目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We prepared liquid crystal (LC) copolymers by simple copolymerization of liquid crystal (LC) side-chain monomers and amorphous side-chain monomers. The LC copolymers formed a highly ordered lamellar structure in which the smectic (Sm) LC phase and amorphous phase are arranged alternately (heterosmectic lamellar (HSL) structure). By introducing photoresponsive LC structure to the Sm phase in the HSL structure, we have demonstrated photo-aligned sub-10-nm induced self-assembly patterned materials and photoresponsive proton-conducting materials as new photoalignment nanomaterial platforms.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

微細加工分野の発展はめざましく、現在、高分子1分子回転半径に迫る微細構造(サブ10 nm)がターゲットとなっている。本研究は、スメクチック液晶側鎖とアモルファス側鎖からなるランダム共重合体によって形成される液晶相およびアモルファス相の側鎖の相分離構造利用したラメラ構造(ヘテロスメクチックラメラ(HSL)構造)を提案し、高規則なサブ10 nm微細構造を形成した。このHSL構造に光配向機能化やプロトン伝導機能を付与することにより、サブ10 nm微細構造材料と光プロトン伝導制御材料へと展開し、その実証を行った。新たな高分子のナノ構造化材料の方法論を示した。
