本研究の特色は（1）実態調査の繰り返しによる実証研究、（2）既存研究が不十分な産業の成熟期、転換期のありようから多国籍企業の進化の新パラダイムを示すこと、（3）アメリカのトランプ政権による貿易政策に対して実態を踏まえた具体的で解決の道筋も含んだ示唆を与えること、にある。事例としてアメリカの自動車産業（二輪車と四輪車）を取り上げる妥当性は（1）製品・工程ライフサイクル説はアメリカの自動車産業を事例としたからであり、（2）アメリカ自動車産業のイノベーションや能力構築行動については検討が不十分だからであり、（3）アメリカ自動車産業は多国籍企業の今後のありようにも示唆を与えると考えられるからだ。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The study has the following characteristics: (1) It presents a novel framework for understanding the evolution of multinational corporations (MNCs) based on industry maturity and transition stages, which have not been adequately explored in existing research. (2) It offers specific recommendations for industrial promotion based on the current post-COVID-19 situation, characterized by significant changes in trade policies. This research follows a hypothesis-driven approach and focuses on the automotive industry in the United States, China, India, and Southeast Asia as case studies. The primary findings of this study are: (1) An examination of the growth and decline of the U.S. auto industry and an exploration of corporate behavior during the different stages of the industry life cycle, namely maturity and transition phases. (2) An analysis of American companies' expansion strategies and business practices in Thailand, China, and India, where they have established a global presence.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は製品・工程ライフサイクル説（Abernathy,1978）の深化に次の3点から貢献した。第1に、本研究がアメリカの自動車産業を事例に成熟期、転換期を解明に取り組んだことで先行研究との連続性が保たれ、経路依存的な要素を具体的に解明したことである。第2に、アメリカ自動車産業はIoTやAIといったイノベーションや競争優位を大きく左右する可能性のある動向をも包含したため、本研究は今後の多国籍企業の戦略に示唆を与えうることである。第3に、製品・工程ライフサイクルの成熟期・転換期のイノベーション、組織能力と企業の戦略形成プロセスをアメリカ、中国、インド、東南アジアと多方面から検討したことである。
