Outline of Research at the Start |
量子位相(ベリー位相)は、スピン、軌道、電荷等と並んで物性を支配する物理自由度と認知されるようになったが、その直接的検出が課題である。我々は、金属磁性体のスピン波の測定により、量子位相による仮想的磁場(ベリー曲率)が中性子非弾性散乱の観測量であることを発見した。この最初の実験に引き続き、異常ホール効果への量子位相の寄与が考えられるいくつかの系において、中性子非弾性散乱が一般的に量子位相を直接的に検出する実験手法であることを実証する。さらに、異常ホール効果の起源に対して論争のある系で、その決着を図る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
スピンカイラリティーが予想される金属反強磁性体FeMnでは、Fe0.5Mn0.5(磁気相転移温度TN=465.5K)とFe0.7Mn0.3(TN=412K)について、中性子非弾性散乱実験をTNより低温及び高温で広いエネルギー範囲で実施した。低温では、反強磁性スピン波の分散関係を示し、スピン波速度cは、エネルギーEとともに増大する。波数q=0ではcはTNでスケールされる。ギャップエネルギーが大きいことからスピンカイラリティーの存在が示唆される。励起のエネルギー幅はq方向はEに比例し、積分強度もEに比例し、これらは金属磁性体の振る舞いに一致する。E方向のエネルギー幅はcのE依存性に対応している。Fe0.7Mn0.3のエネルギー幅はFe0.5Mn0.5よりも大きいが、磁気モーメントの値の分布及びTNの大小関係から推定されてきたFe0.7Mn0.3のランダムネスの大きさが証明された。E>150meVの励起は、TNの上下で温度変化しないことから、個別励起であるストーナー励起であることが結論される。従来の研究では、スピン波とストーナー励起の相互作用が論じられてきたが、この実験はストーナー励起を単独で観測したものである。現在、出版準備中である。 研究期間全体では上述の最終年度研究実績に加えて、強磁性金属Nd2Mo2O7及び反強磁性金属Mn3Snの実験により、ベリー曲率の中性子非弾性散乱による検出が普遍的なものであることを示した。CeTe3及びCeTe2Seでは磁気異方性と反対称性スピン軌道相互作用との関係を議論した。この研究の中心的実験技術はJ-PARC MLFに設置された高分解能チョッパー分光器HRCによる中性子非弾性散乱であり、HRCの高性能化に向けた基礎研究をすすめとともに、クライオファーネスを整備して4-700Kの広い温度領域での中性子非弾性散乱実験を可能にした。
