Outline of Research at the Start

アブラナ科植物黒斑細菌病菌はキャベツ、ダイコン、ハクサイだけでなく、緑肥植物として栽培される単子葉植物のエンバクにも感染するため、黒斑細菌病の大発生が栽培地では問題になっている。一般的な植物病原細菌は特定の宿主植物のみを発病させる。アブラナ科植物黒斑細菌病菌は広く双子葉および単子葉植物を発病させるが、本菌の病原性機構は不明である。本研究では、アブラナ科植物黒斑細菌病菌の病原力因子を同定し、病原性機構の解明を目指す。具体的には、(1)変異体ライブラリーからの病原力低下株の選抜、(2)病原力関連遺伝子の網羅的同定、(3)病原力因子の機能を明らかにすることにより、病原性機構の全体像を明らかにする。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We identified virulence genes related not only to type 3 secretion system (T3SS), but also to primary metabolisms including amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids based on mutant screening of Pseudomonas cannabina pv. alisalensis. Furthermore, our results suggest that different virulence factors are required depending on the host. In addition, our results suggest that many virulence factors are involved in leaf surface growth and invasion.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

今回の研究成果から、アブラナ科植物黒斑細菌病菌の感染に必要な多くの病原力因子が葉の表面での増殖や侵入に関与することが示唆された。さらに、気孔の開閉をめぐる植物と病原細菌の攻防が感染の成否をめぐる重要な局面となっていることが示唆された。植物病原細菌の多くは気孔を侵入場所としており、さらに、いくつかの糸状菌も気孔を侵入場所としているため、気孔防御の活性化は、様々な植物病害防除への応用が可能になると考える。
