| Outline of Research at the Start |
口腔の機能として重要な構音および摂食・嚥下機能にとって，円滑に機能するには唾液の働きが極めて重要である．唾液分泌低下によるこれらの機能低下は，患者のQOLを著しく低下させる．唾液腺は一度損傷してしまうと完全な組織再生が困難であり，唾液腺組織再生療法の開発が望まれている．唾液腺の成長には種々の成長因子や組織周囲環境に加えて、神経細胞の伸長およびその制御が重要である．神経細胞の伸長を制御することは，唾液腺成長のみならず，その他の組織成長制御にも応用することが可能である．そこで，本研究ではハイドロゲルを用いて作製した基板を用い，唾液腺組織成長ならびに神経細胞伸長を制御するための技術構築をめざす．

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
1) We aimed to produce the most suitable material for nerve cell elongation, but we could not obtain the expected results. 2) Using the prepared hydrogel, we searched for the optimal functional peptide-modified hydrogel for the elongation of nerve tissue during tissue culture, and aimed to investigate the mechanism, but we could not achieve it as planned. rice field.
3) We aimed to impart a linear morphology of nerve tissue using hydrogel, which is optimal as a scaffold for nerve cell elongation, but we could not achieve it because it did not proceed as planned.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究にて神経細胞伸長の制御が可能となれば，怪我や手術などによって切断されてしまった末梢神経の修復や神経外傷後の神経障害性疼痛に対する有効な治療手段となり得る．神経切断に伴う運動障害・知覚障害および神経外傷後の神経障害性疼痛などは患者の QOLの低下の要因となるが，生体外にて組織培養した神経組織を生体内に移植することが出来れば，これらのデメリットがなく患者のQOL回復へとつながる画期的な治療法になると考える．今回の研究期間内で明確な研究結果は得られなかったが、今後の研究に繋げていくことを目指していく。
