| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、人称代名詞ではないものの、話し手・聞き手を指示する「代名詞代用表現（pronoun substitute）」およびそれと関連の深い「呼びかけ表現（address term）」について、8言語（日本語、朝鮮語、マレー語、インドネシア語、ジャワ語、タイ語、ベトナム語、ビルマ語）を対象とし、通言語的研究を行う。
「どのような表現が代名詞代用表現・呼びかけ表現として用いられるか？」という問いを立て、個別言語レベル、通言語レベルで、多言語の専門家が協同で記述・分析、言語資源構築を行う。
自然言語処理との連携を重視する。多言語言語資源を用いる他、自然言語処理で直接利用可能な大規模言語資源を構築する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we conducted a cross-linguistic study of pronoun substitutes and address terms in eight languages (Japanese, Korean, Malay, Indonesian, Javanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Burmese). Pronoun substitutes are not personal pronouns ("I", "you"), but refer to the speaker and addressee like personal pronouns. The examples of pronoun substitutes include "okaasan" 'mother' in Japanese. Our big research question was: "What kinds of expressions are used as pronoun substitutes and address terms?" We, as a group of experts in multiple languages, collaborated in the description and analysis of the relevant data as well as the construction of language resources at the individual language level and at the cross-linguistic level.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
代名詞代用表現は、日本語では非常に発達しているものの、印欧語や華語諸語では発達していない。そのため、これまでその言語学的研究は個別言語レベルのものが中心であった。また、代名詞代用表現は日本語や朝鮮語といった個別言語に特異な現象とみなされ、一般言語学的な現象としては注目されてこなかった。本研究では、代名詞代用表現が発達した8言語を対象に通言語的な研究を行うことで、一般言語学的な知見が得られたほか、個別言語研究を深めることもできた。
さらに、本研究では、代名詞代用・呼びかけ表現の語彙資源やコーパスへのアノテーションを行い一般公開した。これらは、言語学のみならず自然言語処理においても利用可能である。
