Outline of Research at the Start

近年、遷移金属酸化物のナノドメイン構造制御による機能拡張が盛んに報告されている。しかし従来、酸化物材料のドメイン境界密度は小さく、マクロ物性への影響は限られていた。申請者はこれまで高いドメイン密度を有する酸化物薄膜材料の作製やドメイン境界を活用した磁気・誘電特性の新奇物性探索を進めてきた。本研究ではそこで得た合成戦略をマルチフェロイック材料、強磁性-反強磁性転移材料、金属-絶縁体材料、高誘電材料などに駆使することで、酸化物を対象とした高密度ナノドメイン構造制御技術の確立を目指す。さらにその技術応用によりドメイン境界を舞台にした遷移金属酸化物の電荷・スピンの新奇機能開拓を進める。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Transition metal oxides exhibit a wide range of properties. In this study, we expanded functionality through nano-domain structure control. For instance, in hexagonal rare-earth ferrite oxides, we successfully formed high-density domains within the film, leading to the discovery of room-temperature antiferroelectric properties in this system for the first time. We also achieved modulation of ferroelectric properties accompanying magnetic phase transitions. Furthermore, we discovered that magnetic properties can be modulated through domain control in double perovskite GdBaCo2Ox.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

遷移金属酸化物は遷移金属元素の種類と結晶構造の組み合わせにより、光触媒・高温超伝導・巨大磁気抵抗・強誘電などの多種多様な物性を示すため、基礎研究から応用開発まで精力的な新奇物性探索が展開されている。本研究ではナノドメイン構造制御による機能拡張を行い、その有用性を実証できた。
