Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、低温誘導成熟機構を、温帯性果実種横断的にゲノム・トランスクリプトーム解析、メタボローム解析、遺伝子組換え技術などを駆使して解析し、その統合的理解を目指す先駆的学術的取り組みである。低温誘導成熟果はエチレン誘導果よりも品質保持期間が長い。また、低温感受性の品種間差異は成熟の早生・晩生性に密接に関与している。すなわち、本研究は、収穫後ロス低減に直結する新品質保持技術開発と分子マーカー開発による育種への貢献を目的とする実用的研究でもある。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Elucidation of the mechanisms controlling fruit ripening and senescence of horticultural crops is a key to developing and improving storage and distribution technologies, and is one of the focal points of horticultural physiological research. Plant physiological metabolism is conducted by enzyme activity and has a clear temperature dependence. The present study provides clear evidence for the existence of low-temperature-induced ripening and senescence mechanisms, which have been largely unexplored to date, and we believe that we have established the foundation for a new frontier in fruit physiology research. Furthermore, we were able to develop several practical quality preservation techniques based on these low-temperature-induced ripening and senescence phenomena.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

今回の研究によって、これまでにはほとんど未解明であった低温誘導性成熟・老化機構の明確な存在証拠が示され、果実生理学研究におけるニューフロンティアの基盤構築ができたと考えている。さらに、これらを低温誘導性成熟・老化現象を前提とした実用的な品質保持技術のいくつかが開発できた。今後これらの手法がさらに研究、改善されSDGsに貢献すると期待している。
