Research Abstract |
SLAM knockin mice well reproduced immunological abnormalities observed in human measles. However, measles virus only grew in type I interferon receptor knockout mice, since it could not effectively counteract type I interferons in mouse cells. To overcome this problem, transgenic mice were established in which type I interferons are suppressed in measles virus-infected cells. Furthermore, it was demonstrated using 10-day-old suckling hamsters that enhanced fusion activity of the measles virus fusionprotein plays an important role in measles virus spread in neuronal cells that lack efficient receptors.
