Research Abstract |
The present study investigates native Japanese interference in the listening process of English sounds from a qualitative perspective. It is argued that Japanese EFL learners, when a perception gap occurs, are unable to pursue parsing along speech chains, and that various types of native Japanese interference occurs at the phonetic, syntactic and semantic interpretation level.
