Outline of Research at the Start

多頭飼育のマーモセットの自由行動下での多様な運動・行動を解析可能なケージ型自動行動解析装置を構築し、脳の発達過程と加齢に伴う脳構造変化および運動・行動変容のデータベースを作成し、これと比較することで遺伝子改変マーモセットの行動解析を「誰でも」実施可能にするための基盤を構築する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Genetically modified marmosets for neurological disease studies lacked behavioral analysis methods. We developed a device to automatically analyze their behavior in home cages, leveraging a database of wild-type marmoset behaviors for comparison. From FY2021 to FY2023, our research introduced an automatic behavior analysis system, voice communication, and a touch panel device. We automated speech sound classification, created individual vocalization identification, and developed a touch panel task identification device. We annotated 3,000 images for behavior analysis, employed DeepLabCut for skeletal tracking, and used Lidar with low-light cameras to monitor sleep disturbances as early disease indicators. The touch panel showed that offspring could learn tasks without direct training, indicating natural learning capabilities.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

ホームケージで多頭飼育されているマーモセットの自由な行動を自動で解析する装置を構築し、動物福祉に配慮した飼育環境で非侵襲的に、行動解析を「誰でも」実施可能にするための基盤を構築した。これにより、アルツハイマー病やパーキンソン病といった神経変性疾患モデルマーモセットを用いて、疾患がどのように進行し、行動がどのように変化するのかを脳画像を参照しながら明らかにすることが可能となった。このことは今後の神経変性疾患の早期発症法の開発と先制医療の開発に有用となることが期待される。
