Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The main achievement of this research project is its clarification of Bergson’s original view of the process of recollection. Specifically, it shows that, for Bergson, recollection involves a mental activity through which the temporal extension of memory is controlled. This research also reconstructed Bergson’s critique of Associationism, which he developed in order to highlight the nature of this recollective activity. This reconstruction also demonstrated that the control of temporal extension plays a crucial role in Bergson’s account of how memory can be distinguished from perception.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
